Environment Canada issues Special Weather Statement for Montreal

Oct 30 2019, 2:00 pm

Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Montreal, calling for strong winds and heavy rainfall.

Essentially, Mother Nature might severely dampen your trick-or-treating plans for tomorrow.

“A major low-pressure system from the Great Lakes will affect the province of Quebec on Thursday and Friday,” reads the alert. “Total rainfall amounts could exceed 50 millimetres and winds may reach up to 90 kilometres per hour.”

Heavy rain may cause flash floods and ponding on roads, according to the weather agency. It also advises that residents put away or secure any objects that could be damaged by the wind.

Meaning, those outdoor Halloween decorations could get a whole lot spookier.

The statement, issued early on Wednesday morning, is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Environment Canada urges citizens to continually monitor weather updates and alerts.
