A new picnic-beach-terrace hybrid has opened up in Chinatown.

The public place, located on the corner of St-Laurent and RenĂ©-LĂ©vesque, is split into two sections: a terrace where guests can bring drinks and meals and a beach where guests can “relax, eat, and socialize.”

The new public square was announced by Marc-André Carignan, Minister for Culture and Communications, in Montreal.

The site also features more than a dozen local restaurants that sell a “lunch box” of their menu items.

The project follows all the COVID-19 health protocols and was carried out by La PĂ©pinière I Espaces Collectifs, along with entrepreneurs, restauranteur, and artists from Montreal’s Asian community, according to Carignan.
