Canadian Grand Prix F1 race moving to different month in Montreal

For many Montrealers, Grand Prix weekend, with its array of parties and street festivals, unofficially kicks off the city’s summer season.
An annual event on the F1 calendar since 1978, Montreal’s beloved F1 race has almost always exclusively been held in early June. But starting in 2026, racing fans will need to adjust their calendars, as the Grand Prix will now be scheduled a little earlier in the year,
According to an F1 news release, the Canadian Grand Prix will be moved to late May as of 2026.
As a result, starting in 2026, the Monaco Grand Prix will take place on the first full weekend of June each year.
The change is part of Formula 1’s plan to make its race schedule more efficient and eco-friendly by cutting down on international travel. By moving Montreal up in the annual calendar, F1 can better group its European races together, reducing transatlantic flights.
The shift has the full backing of the Canadian Grand Prix organizers, the government, and local partners. Jean-Philippe Paradis, F1’s president and CEO of Octane Racing Group, emphasized that this move supports the sport’s long-term sustainability goals.
“This change in the schedule is a major step in our commitment, as well as Formula 1’s, toward a more sustainable future. It demonstrates our desire to combine sporting performance and event organization with environmental responsibility,” said Paradis.
“We are determined to offer our fans, our communities, and our loyal audience a unique and enriched experience, in addition to extending the summer season for Montreal.”
The 2025 F1 season, which kicks off in March, will be the final year Montreal’s Grand Prix takes place in June. Scheduled for June 15, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve staple will be sandwiched between races in Spain and Austria.
