Chocolate worth leaving Montreal for.
The town of Almonte, Ontario may only have about 5,000 people living there, but it also has the best chocolate in the world. At least, so says London’s Academy of Chocolate.
For their 2016 awards, the Academy granted Almonte’s Hummingbird chocolate maker the Golden Bean for its Hispaniola 70% bar (50g @ $6.50). In total, just 14 chocolates from around the world earned the prestigious Golden Bean designation.

Of course, Hummingbird is no stranger to winning awards for their small batch chocolate:

And with this kind of dedication it’s no surprise:
“We craft small batches of dark chocolate directly from cacao beans in our small workshop. We make our chocolate in tiny batches, touching every bean, taking our time to do it right.”
Located just 40 minutes west of Ottawa – a two and a half hour drive from Montreal – you can also find Hummingbird chocolate in two locations in Montreal:
- La Tablette de Miss Choco – 838 Avenue du Mont-Royal, Quebec
- Le Couteau / The Knife – 4627 Rue Saint-Denis, Quebec
Of course, luckily for us their online store is always open.
