The 5 best cafes in Montreal based on Google reviews

Oct 20 2020, 7:29 pm

Aromas of freshly brewed coffee, the chatter of friends catching up, and menus filled with scrumptious delights are among the things we associate with Montreal cafes.

But these coffee shops are more than places to get our caffeine fix; they’re an integral part of our small business community. Aside from adding a sense of vitality to our local neighbourhoods, they’re places that have gradually become a part of our lifestyles.

Cafes in Montreal and across the country are battling the challenges of the pandemic as they arise, and they need our support more than ever. From October 18 to 24, Small Business Week is taking place in Canada, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to support local.

Since it’s tough to narrow down the top spots among our city’s food scene, we’ve rounded up the five best cafes based on Google reviews.

Nestled in the heart of Old Montreal and built on the main floor of a former bank, Crew Collective & Café boasts a stunning interior with high ceilings and ornate details. On the menu, you’ll find house-made drinks like the autumnal ginger elixir, baked goods, avocado salmon toast, soups, and the hearty lentil and hummus bowl, to name a few drool-worthy items. The cafe is open for takeout only until further notice, making it easy to order ahead and indulge at home.

Old Montreal is home to another equally charming cafe, bakery, and restaurant with Olive et Gourmando. The rustic setting of this spot is complemented by its impressive menu with everything prepared fresh in house. Kickstart the day with the crunchy, homemade granola with fruits and yogurt, fill up for lunch with the OG grilled cheese sandwich, or treat yourself to a nourishing salad for dinner. The cafe’s dining room is closed, but you can order takeout at the side window, or place an order for pick-up online or by phone, adding on a personalized chai tea or bottle of wine if the mood is right.

To get a taste of Italy without ever leaving the city, order from Café Milano Montreal for at-home delivery. The Saint-Léonard spot has been serving up culturally-influenced espressos, lattes, sandwiches, and delectable desserts since 1971. Whether your heart swoons for a steak sandwich or an irresistibly good bocconcini salad, you’ll find it on the menu. The croissants, cookies, and selection of Italian-style desserts also available for takeout are as good as it gets.

Google Review: “Best sandwiches and drinks. So Italian! One of my favorite places to eat at in Montreal. Must try!”

Whether you’re already a fan of one (or more) of the aforementioned cafes or if you’re eager to sample their menu offerings soon, showing some love with a Google review of your experience goes a long way for the owners — and fellow Montrealers.

In 2019, a BrightLocal survey reported that 91% of consumers say positive reviews make them more likely to use a business. And by adding a detailed description of the service, photos of the food, or a quick star rating, you’re also doing a good deed for local businesses at a time when it’s needed most.
