15-time Grammy Award-winning artist, Alicia Keys, was in Montreal over the weekend to receive a special award from Amnesty International.

A ceremony presenting Keys with the Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award was held on Saturday.

The award is given to an artist and activist who has stood up for injustice and furthered the cause of human rights.

Keys has long been a humanitarian, having co-founded Keep A Child Alive, a nonprofit organization that helps families affected by HIV in Africa and India, and the We Are Here movement that encourages young people to mobilize for social change.

When presented with the award, the singer gave a short speech and was part of an indigenous blanket ceremony.
