7 fun summer runs happening in Montreal

Getting fit has never been more fun!

From the infamous Colour Run to classics like the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, below are 7 running events not to be missed.

Spartan Race Montreal Beast

Prepare for the workout of your life at the Spartan Race Montreal. With over 20km of track and 25 obstacles, the fastest time recorded is 3 hours. As the site warns, “our beast of an obstacle course will bring you face to face with your demons. No excuses, no mercy, no giving up!” If you think you have what it takes, then fly solo or put together a team and be sure to register by July 29th.

The Colour Run Montreal

The Colour Run Canada is back in our fair city for another year. This year’s tour, the Colour Run Tropicolour World Tour, will be in town on August 13th. This year’s race includes a tropicolour zone, a rainbow beach at the finish line, and a runner’s kit filled with island-themed goodies. Think leis, pineapple, and white sand. The run is 5km and is a great activity for you and your friends!

Prison Break Race

Make your way through 400 acres of escape land made up of fields, trails, rivers, hills, and mud in Montreal’s Prison Break Race. Simulating an actual prison break, participants will be running past police officers as they try to gain back their freedom. The Montreal race takes place at Terre des Bisons in Rawdon, Quebec and the cost of a ticket includes a beer, a t-shirt, energy drinks, a medal, and admission to the post-race party.

5km Foam Fest Montreal


This year’s 5km Foam Fest is happening on September 3rd so prepare for 25 obstacles, each with more suds and bubbles than the last. Foam Fest Montreal will have you crawling through mud pits and sliding down a 50 foot slip n’ slide on Mont Saint Bruno.

Night Nation Run

Described as the world’s “first running music festival,” the Night Nation Run is coming to Montreal on September 9th. This 5km run combines music (there are DJ booths set up along the route), night running, and plenty of glow sticks for a night you’ll never forget. The run will take place at La Ronde on Ile Sainte Helene

When: September 9

Night Race


If the Night Nation Run is a little bit too wild for your taste, the Night Race taking place on September 16th is a great alternative. With 5km and 10km run options, you’ll be weaving your way along the water in Old Port. Participants will receive a complimentary Energizer LED Headlight and a Brooks tech t-shirt.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon is back for its 18th year in a row. Taking place on Jacques-Cartier Bridge and Parc Laurier, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon gives you an option of running a full marathon, half marathon, 10km, 5km, or 1km. Better known as the Montreal Marathon, this is one of Montreal’s most popular running events throughout the year. What makes it special? As you go through the course, there will be live bands playing music along the route.

When: September 25
Tickets: $20 for 1km, $59 for 5km, $69 for 10km, $110 for a half marathon, and $125 for a full marathon, for more information click here
