Downtown Montreal will have a new terrasse in the summer and skating rink in the winter!

The City of Montreal just released the winning design for Clark Esplanade, the city’s newest public space.

Clark Esplanade, located between Sainte Catherine Street and Maisonneuve Boulevard, is going to be 5000 square metres in size.

The space will comprise a large urban terrasse with food trucks and seating in the summer, and will be turned into a refrigerated skating rink during the winter months (November to March). It will also contain an urban chalet.

Ultimately, the city hopes, “it will be a lively meeting place, both different and complementary to Place des Festivals.”

Construction on Clark Esplanade is set to begin in fall 2017, however, the space likely won’t be open to the public until 2019.
