5 reasons to buy a Bixi pass for the summer

Whether you love cycling or haven’t been on a bike since you were a kid, there are a ton of benefits to riding a Bixi, the public bicycle sharing system in Montreal. So if you’re not in the market to buy a bike but still want to have access to one, take a look at the top five reasons to buy a Bixi pass this summer below.

Bixi passes are ridiculously convenient

With extremely short distances between Bixi stations (especially in the downtown, Plateau, and Mile End neighbourhoods,) travelling by Bixi is ridiculously convenient. In addition, Montreal is a very bike-friendly city boasting bike paths all over (just check out the image above). Want to enjoy the sunshine after work? Hop on a Bixi. Craving some ice cream but the next bus isn’t coming for 15 minutes? Hop on a Bixi. For a complete list of Bixi stations, click here.

Bixi passes are cheap

A full season membership will only set you back $87, while a half season membership costs $55. The full season membership lasts a full 12 months from the date you sign up and gives you unlimited access to Bixi bikes (45 minutes per ride, maximum). To put it into perspective, the cost of a 12-month Bixi Pass is a few dollars more than the cost of a monthly STM pass. And in summer, you’ll want to enjoy the outdoors rather than staring at the inside of the metro. Click here for more information on Bixi pricing.

A Bixi pass will force you to get exercise

Cycling is an excellent form of exercise. If you’ve tried (and failed) to go for morning runs up Mount Royal on a regular basis, then a Bixi pass might be just the ticket. Ideally, get a friend or family member to join with you so you have double the motivation!

A Bixi pass will entice you to explore new parts of Montreal

Are you someone that’s been living in Montreal for as long as you can remember and has never taken the time to visit neighbourhoods like Outremont or St. Leonard? Now’s your chance to get re-acquainted with the city you know and love. Once again, by paying for the Bixi pass up front you’ll be motivated to actually make good use of it. Check out the station map here and plan a weekly bike ride with a friend to a new area of Montreal.

A valet service for Bixi bikes was officially launched this year

Bixi has added a new feature this year by offering its customers a valet service. At certain locations in Montreal, a Bixi employee will bring you a bike or return one for you. This is a real game changer since Bixi stations tend to be completely full at times. The valet service will be offered at special events and festivals throughout the summer.
