10 food events in Montreal this July

Given Montreal has some pretty great restaurants, it’s no surprise that the city also hosts an exciting array of gastronomic festivals and events throughout the year. This July, the city is kicking its food culture into high gear with everything from The Great RibFest to a sangria party.

Here’s the 411 on the hottest food events happening in Montreal in July:

The Great Montreal RibFest 2016


The Great Montreal RibFest is back in Old Port, bringing with it some of the top-notch barbecue experts in the world. Thousands of ribs await you from BBQ joints in Montreal, Alabama, and New Mexico. Admission to the event is totally free (though the ribs will cost you extra) and there will be a plethora of mouthwatering barbecue sauces available for purchase.

When: June 29 – July 3

Les Week-ends du Monde

Week-ends du Monde provides Montrealers of all origins with a showcase to celebrate and share their traditions through music, dance, and culinary discoveries. Come and eat top dishes from all around the world and learn about their cultures while you munch away.

Marché des Possibles

The Marché des Possibles is a public open-air space featuring free socio-cultural programming alongside a biergarten, food trucks, and pop-up restaurants. This is a great place to mingle, check out local arts, and eat your face off!

Laval’s Beer Festival 2016

Laval’s Beer Festival, taking place at Centre de la Nature, will feature a plethora of local Quebec beers and food. In addition to all of the delicious food and drink available for consumption, Laval’s Beer Festival will feature workshops, tasting booths, competitions, and great activities for kids like face painting, music shows, and inflatable games.

First Friday

Spend Canada Day at First Friday. Back by popular demand, First Fridays is Montreal’s premiere food truck gathering that happens on the first Friday of every month between May 6 and October 7. So if you’ve been trying to track down a certain food truck for the last few months, now is your time to line up and indulge!

Bouffons Montreal

According to the website, “Bouffons Montreal celebrates the diversity and quality of Montreal’s gastronomy,” and my, oh my is there a lot to celebrate! Focusing on food, wine, beer, and liquor, Bouffons Montreal will be happening for the last two weeks of July and will be showcasing the best food trucks in Montreal. Last year’s event featured more than 40 food trucks serving up a massive range of food from Le Super Truck’s chargrilled eggplant yogurt to Grumman 78’s curried lamb taco. This year is sure to be a treat for foodies everywhere!

Sangria Party

Everyone knows sangria is the best summer drink, so why not have a party to celebrate it? This year, Montreal will be hosting its very own Sangria Party in Parc Jarry. It’s a potluck style event so make sure to bring your own, but also be sure to try a few recipes from your fellow Montrealers.

When: July 2, 2-10pm

A Night in Portugal


Craving a vacation but just don’t have the money to book a trip to Lisbon? Now’s your chance to enjoy a night in Portugal complete with authentic Portuguese cuisine and a mesmerizing fado show. The menu has been prepared by Portuguese-born chef, Helena Loureiro, and when you’re finished enjoying the finest flavours of Portugal, you can focus your attention on a classical and dramatic fado show starring singer, Jordelina Benfeito. Be sure to grab your tickets fast as this fancy gastronomic event at Le Balcon Cabaret Music-Hall is sure to sell out fast.

L’Appetit Fete International de Laval

Laval is hosting L’Appetit Fete International de Laval for the 11th year in a row. For three full days, Montrealers can make their way to Boulevard Sainte-Rose to enjoy gourmet products from around the world. With over 70 exhibitors in attendance, both local and international dishes will be on display. You can even take this opportunity to network with some of the biggest restaurant owners in the city!

Park Lunch Box

What: After their first successful collaboration during the Theater of Life series, the Phi Centre and renowned chef Antonio Park have once again joined forces with the Park Lunch Box project. United by a desire to offer practical meals that don’t compromise on taste, the two partners will be spicing up Montreal’s culinary landscape with the Park x Phi pop-up counter all summer.
When: Tuesday to Saturday from June 14 to August 21, 11 am to 2 pm
