Wanderlusting: This town in Portugal is a real-life fairytale

Only a 40-minute drive from Lisbon lies a fairytale land with a collection of royal palaces perched throughout forest-covered hills. Wanderlusters, meet Sintra. Sintra, wanderlusters.

Glad we’re all acquainted.

Once you arrive, you’ll fall in love with the whimsical pastels of the Palace of Pena, or the regal ruins of the Moorish Castle. Explore the tunnels, turrets and towers of Quinta Da Regaleira, or stroll through the manicured gardens of Monserrate Palace. Each structure is unique and makes you feel like you have travelled back to a time of dungeons and dragons, just with less dice.

If each individual castle wasn’t enough, you get sweeping views of the landscape below from each mountaintop, and strolling through the little town of Sintra is a treat in itself.
