Travellers warned of fake Expedia customer service scammers

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning travellers of a potential scheme involving fraudsters impersonating Expedia Inc. representatives.

The BBB has received complaints from customers alleging they obtained a number for Expedia using an internet search.

When they call the number, they reach an individual posing as an Expedia representative.

The fake representative claims the only way to receive a refund is to purchase a gift card. They proceed to request the customer’s card number and pin information.

“Expedia does not require consumers to purchase gift cards in order to obtain a refund,” said the BBB in a statement.

If you believe you are a victim of this scheme, BBB recommends filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, or with their Scam Tracker Report.
