Head underground to this cozy and bumpin’ cave in the heart of St. Germain. With a rounded stone ceiling and low-hanging lights, this is an authentic Parisian bar that still retains the charm from when it was created centuries ago. Come here for tunes of every genre, and to try not to spill your wine while dancing. And if the dance floor is full, just dance on the tables – we promise it’s encouraged!

All speakeasies are cool speakeasies, but let’s be real, a laundry machine door has got to be near the top of the list. This relatively new bar has created quite a buzz and you just have to check it out while you’re in Paree. Just don’t bring your dirty laundry, okay?

Located in the oh-so-chic district of Le Marais, this award-winning bar attracts a largely British crowd (the Brits love red doors, what can we say), so come here to enjoy a carefully crafted cocktail in the candlelight with some new friends. The bartenders have animals on their aprons, so you know it’s gonna be a good time.

A few doors down from Le Syndicat and across the street from Le Mauri7, Chez Jeanette is another option for indulging in the Parisian bar scene. Slightly more upscale than Le Mauri7, Chez Jeanette has the feel of a traditional French restaurant and usually draws a bit of a tamer crowd.

If these walls could talk: Hemingway Bar

A post shared by Ritz Paris (@ritzparis) on

Tucked away at the back of the Ritz you can find the old stomping grounds of Ernest Hemingway himself. Oh, to be a fly on the wall and hear what kind of sweet nothings he had murmured to the patrons. If you’re looking for a popping, trendy, chic atmosphere with affordable drinks this is not it (*cough* 30 euro cocktails *cough*) — but if you’re looking for a classy space with literary nostalgia for days, this is all you.

Bumpin’, trendy, chic: Ritz Bar

Refer to our recommendation above — right across the hall from Hemingway Bar lies another upscale option for drinks, however, this one has a more modern feel to it. Drinks are still not much cheaper than Hemingway Bar (24 euro cocktails), but this swanky space is a perfect place to come if you’re looking to impress someone.

You will feel oh-so-exclusive in this mysterious underground club by David Lynch, but don’t expect to get in between 6 pm to 11 pm, when it is members only (we were told “we were not invited here,” fair). Once you get in, it’s an epic place to dance the night away.

Grunge is good in Paris, FYI. All part of the charm. Situated near Moulin Rouge, a bit of a touristy area for nightlife, Dirty Dick is known to attract an international crowd. Get there early if you want a spot at the bar, or stand in the back as you enjoy some fruity concoctions.

The Insta ops are through the roof in this rooftop bar (see what we did there?). But for real, we can’t get enough of the cozy setting and stunning views from this trendy bar perched on top of the BHV department store. Any bevvy with a view is a good bevvy in our books.

Set in an underground old court and torture chamber, you can find live jazz here any day of the week. One of Paris’ most legendary jazz clubs, you may recognize Caveau de la Huchette from its appearance in La La Land! Dust off your dancin’ shoes and get to lindy hoppin’ as you transport back to the roarin’ twenties.

Intimate live music: Caveau des Oubliettes

A post shared by Caveau Des Oubliettes (@caveaudesoubliettes) on

This underground space is where you can find jazz, soul, funk, rock, and world musicians from across the city and beyond coming together for a roof-shaking jam sesh. When we say this place is intimate, we mean it — expect to sit on your neighbour’s lap, or vice versa. We know the French are intimate but we didn’t know they were THAT intimate. Drinks are pricey, but it’s worth it for the authentic vibes.

Neighbourhood: St. Michel

Underground jazz: 38 Riv

Located on the main drag of Le Marais, Rue de Rivoli, you may just stumble upon this gem of a jazz club — and be pleasantly surprised you did. Grab a glass of wine, pull up a stool, and kick back as some of the city’s best musicians jam out with some soulful tunes into the wee hours of the am.

Irish sports bar: Cork and Cavan

With friendly staff, ample TV screens, a canal-side location, and an upbeat atmosphere, this is a great place to come drink a beer and watch the game. As the most recent winners of the World Cup, you know the French will be getting into it!

If all else fails, do as the Parisians do and grab a bottle of wine to go drink by the Seine.
