Just because the holidays have passed and the new year is well underway, doesn’t mean that you can’t still find wonderment in the whimsical winter season.

A prime example of winter fun still to be had is Apukka Resort‘s captivating glass igloos that provide guests with surreal views of aurora borealis.

Imagine it. The wilderness completely encapsulates you. The landscape is covered in thick, fluffy snow. The smell of pine and spruce provides a rustic, comforting atmosphere.

You’re secluded and hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city and can truly take in the breathtaking magnitude of the countless stars dusting the night sky while the colours of the northern lights dance delicately outside your windows.

Located adjacent to the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Lapland Finland, guests visiting the resort can indulge in some of the best conditions to view the natural phenomenon firsthand.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing and unique features that visitors experience is spending the entire night under the vast, expansive sky from the comfort of their delightfully warm bed with the igloos’ panorama glass roof, which is heated and remains frost and snow-free at all times.

“Just pour a glass of wine and admire the view with your loved one ā€“ in complete comfort and privacy,” the resort’s website writes.

All Aurora Cabins come complete with a double bed and two additional beds under the glass roof, as well as a private bathroom with a shower, minibar, and complimentary WiFi.

“Be welcomed as a dear friend as thatā€™s how we want to take care of you. And nature fulfills the rest,” says the company.

Almost exactly on the Arctic Circle, the resort offers the Apukka Aurora ExperienceĀ for guests looking to seek out the Northern Lights in an ideal venue that is free of light pollution and rich with open areas. One such example is Lake OlkkajƤrvi, a prime Northern Lights viewing spot.

Guests can explore the resort and indulge in the stunning northern landscape where they will spend “the most active aurora hours” with light snacks and hot drinks or warm up by the fire in their authentic Kota, a Finnish teepee.

The experience is three hours and takes place every night, costingĀ 69 ā‚¬ ($100 CAD) for adults and 39Ā ā‚¬ (~ $57 CAD) for children ages four to 14.

Other winter activities that guests can participate in include husky and reindeer safaris that transport you into the depths of the forests to experience an authentically Lappish perspective of the arctic landscape.
