Are you a die-hard Downton Abbey fan? Love the idea of having a private butler?
For the first time ever, Highclere Castle — the setting of the beloved period drama — will open its doors for overnight guests on Airbnb.
The one-night-only experience will let super fans and history buffs stay overnight in one of the grand bedrooms on November 26.
For a mere £150 (pocket change in the royal circles, really), guests will have access to the 300-room, 100,000 square foot estate, plus an extravagant traditional dinner in the iconic state dining room — learning what life would be like for the Crawley family.
The opulently-designed estate has been in the Carnarvon family since 1679. Guests will be treated like royalty during their stay — naturally — having dinner with the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, plus cocktails in the saloon.
After dinner, you’ll have coffee in the library before retiring to one of the principal bedrooms, overlooking 1,000 acres of rolling parkland.
In the morning, the lucky guests will enjoy a delicious breakfast before getting a guided private tour of the extensive grounds — and a history lesson giving insight into the castle’s rich history.
Being a castle steeped in tradition there are some strict house rules to abide by. No pets are allowed (although you can pet the nine dogs on site), all newspapers must be ironed, cocktail dress is “de rigueur” for dinner, and gossip is restricted to downstairs quarters only.
Oh yes, and it’s strictly one butler per person.
Bookings for the listing will be open on October 1, in celebration of the upcoming Downton Abbey motion picture.
The listing is for a midweek stay only because, after all, isn’t every day a weekend for the truly upper class?
