Bali will be opening up for travel this summer

The Governor of Bali announced on Sunday night that the Indonesian island will open its border to international travellers as of September 11, 2020.

Bali Governor Wayan Koster has announced a three-step plan to reopen tourism activities on the island in compliance with “new normal” policies.

The plan — dubbed the “New Era of Life Order Protocol” — will regulate Bali’s reopening with the September 11 date as its final phase.

The announcement was made on Sunday night after a mass prayer in which the Bali government asked for the permission, blessing, guidance, and protection of God, according to a Facebook press release.

“For this reason, we surrender completely and sincerely, while pleading with Him to be pleased to give the best gift to all of us,” Governor Koster said after the Pemahayu Jagad worship in Pura Besakih.

As of Sunday afternoon, Bali had 1,849 known cases of COVID-19 and 20 related deaths.

Governor Koster said Bali’s reopening could be postponed to later into the fall should the pandemic worsen on the island.
