Two weeks after the federal legalization of adult-use cannabis in Canada, BC is finally getting a private retail store.
The licence was issued by the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch (LCRB) to Tamarack Cannabis Boutique, and is effective Nov. 1, 2018.
No date has been set for opening. It is located in Kimberley, a 10-hour drive east of Vancouver.
According to the Ministry of the Attorney General, additional private, non-medical cannabis retail store licences will be issued as applicants proceed through the licensing process.
This requires a security screening, financial integrity checks, support from the local government and/or Indigenous nation, and a store inspection.
The province opened the doors to the first and only government-run cannabis shop, located in Kamloops, on October 17 as well as an online store. Over 20,000 orders were placed in the first week.
