The legal sale of adult-use cannabis officially commenced today at 12:01 am in Newfoundland.
Shopify, an Ottawa-based e-commerce platform is powering several of the countries online retail outlets.
According to Loren Padelford, Shopify’s vice-president, the company’s cannabis partners have received over a million visitors and more than 100,000 orders.
Padelford said that over 100 orders per minute are being placed.

Newfoundland, PEI, BC, and Ontario are all using Shopify for the government-run online platforms.
Currently BC only has one physical retail oulet open in Kamloops, and Ontario won’t be getting private retail until April 2019.
