New cannabis store with pneumatic tube system opens in Toronto's Beaches

Toronto’s Beaches is home to a new cannabis store. The Neighbourhood Joint (TNJ) announced the opening of their first cannabis retail location right in the heart of the Beaches.

TNJ’s new store, located at 1987 Queen Street East, will focus on cannabis education and sell products with an emphasis on organic and sustainable cannabis.

The company is set to put a recycling program into place for non-reusable products like pre-filled vape pens, to maintain their environmentally-friendly brand.

The cannabis retailer is also the first in Ontario to install a pneumatic tube system within their store. This means a quick and efficient retrieval of stock and requires less product handling by staff.

The family-owned business installed the tube system as a “key design element” in their store but also as an “ode to the mode of communication” used between Toronto City Hall reporters and newspapers, in the 1930’s.

“The Neighbourhood Joint was made to be our neighbours go-to spot for everything and anything cannabis. At our core, we are focused on offering a wide selection of products, providing our customers extensive product knowledge and offering quick service in a relaxing and friendly environment,” says Andrew Rhodes, Co-Owner of The Neighbourhood Joint.

“We are excited to be joining the Beaches community and look forward to the many years to come.”

Both employees and customers will be required to wear a face mask inside. Alcohol sanitizing stations have been placed at the entrance and at each point of sale. There will also be limits on how many customers may be inside the store.

Although their soft opening took place on Wednesday, the grand opening of The Neighbourhood Joint will take place on August 1.

This is not the only cannabis store that has recently launched in the city. Second Cup’s parent company has opened its first cannabis store in midtown Toronto, as Hemisphere Cannabis takes over a location that formerly belonged to the coffee chain.

Hemisphere joins Second Cup and Bridgehead Coffee, with its new location at 1703 Avenue Road, under the Aegis Brand corporate umbrella.

The store has promised a premium shopping experience for everyone, whether you’re “canna-curious” or a “seasoned user.”
