In just a few hours, BC residents will be able to legally purchase cannabis online from the government-run BC Cannabis Store, and in-store tomorrow at 10 am in Kamloops, currently the province’s only retail outlet.
With about 85 dried-flower strains, oils, capsules, and pre-rolls available, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (BC LDB) is expecting cannabis shortages.
“To date, all four of the largest producers have confirmed they will not be shipping us their full product commitments in time for our online sales to begin, and the opening of our first BC Cannabis Store in Kamloops,” a representative for the BC LDB told Daily Hive via email.
“The LDB is expecting to receive reduced volumes and assortment of non-medical cannabis as it prepares for legalization on October 17. The volume of product will be considerably lower than what licensed producers (LPs) originally committed to providing.”
Despite lower than expected volumes, the representative said they are “confident supply will increase in the weeks after October 17.”
“BC is not alone in this situation; shortages are expected to impact all jurisdictions across Canada, as some LPs look to opportunities in overseas markets. That said we know that we’re doing better than our counterparts in terms of product delivered.”
Individuals aged 19 and older can order cannabis at www.bccannabisstores.com, or visit the Kamloops store at Suite 200 – Columbia Place Shopping Centre.
