Beloved small town Alberta bakery closes its doors

A beloved Canmore bakery has revealed it has closed after several years.

After opening in Canmore in 2022, The Uprising Bakeshop and Espresso Bar at 804 6th Ave. became a favourite for many in the Bow Valley for its European-style sourdough bread.

In 2o25, the Bakeshop closed its doors to make way for The Corner Pub, a new concept under the same ownership, which offers comforting Central European dishes. However, Uprising’s baked goods were still available at its bakery production space at 735 9th St.

But now, owners Patrik and Rebecca have revealed that they have made the “difficult decision” to close Uprising Bakery.

“Baking has always been something we cared deeply about, but it is also very demanding work. After many years of pouring our hearts into the bakery, we have decided that the best step for our family and our long-term stability is to close this chapter and focus on one location moving forward,” the pair said in an Instagram post.

“We truly wish we could have shared this goodbye with more notice, but the timing of the closure came sooner than we had hoped.”

While Uprising will be greatly missed by those both local and visiting Canmore, its famous sourdough will still be on the menu at The Corner Pub.
