Two facing charges after fight over Pokémon cards at Edmonton-area Costco

Two men are facing assault charges after an “altercation” over Pokémon cards at a Costco location near Edmonton on Monday morning.

RCMP say officers were called to the Costco in St. Albert just after 9:30 a.m. for reports of a dispute. A group became upset over the store’s purchase limits on Pokémon cards, and the situation escalated, with staff members assaulted, police said.

A 20-year-old and a 21-year-old man, originally from Ontario, were charged with assault and released on undertakings with conditions not to return to the store. Their first court appearance is set for Jan. 5, 2026, in St. Albert.

Pokémon cards have been in high demand across Canada this season. Earlier this week, two men were also charged after a fight broke out in line for the cards at a Costco in Ottawa.
