Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the Canada Emergency Student Benefit application process opens this Friday, May 15.

Students looking to apply can sign up for “My Account” on the Canada Revenue Agency now to accelerate the process, and sign up for direct deposit.

In April, Trudeau announced a $9 billion plan to help Canadian students.

The Canada Emergency Student Benefit will give students $1,250 a month from May to August and $1,750 each month if the student takes care of someone else or has a disability.

The period covered by the benefit will start on May 1 and will be delivered through the Canada Revenue Agency.

The Canada Emergency Student Benefit is aimed to help students continue their studies, secure, and retain summer employment, pay their bills and save tuition for the fall.

During his daily briefing, Trudeau said the government has been laying the groundwork for economic recovery, and successes depend on maintaining the connection between employer and employee.

According to the prime minister, more than half a million businesses have received a loan through the Canadian Emergency Business Account (CEBA). Additionally, over 120,000 employers have been approved to receive the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy for almost two million workers.

A $1 billion Regional Relief and Recovery Fund is also available for small businesses in rural areas, and Trudeau said the funds will flow through six regional development agencies and Community Futures Network for businesses in rural or remote regions.

“Our government has been focused on getting people the help they need as soon as possible,” said the prime minister.
