You'll have to pay for Edmonton transit again starting next month

The City of Edmonton says it’s resuming transit fare collection starting June 15 as part of its gradual pandemic restart plan.

Transit users who already paid for a spring pass will get a break, though.Ā People who bought a pass for March or April will be able to pay for rides between June 15 and 30. Anyone who buys a July transit pass can also use it to pay for June rides.

Passes purchased in April will be accepted as valid payment through July 31.

“Customers should board the bus through the front door, starting June 15, and are highly encouraged to follow Alberta Health guidance of frequent hand washing, covering your cough/sneeze and wearing a non-medical mask,” the City said in a news release Thursday.

Transit drivers and staff will also wear masks when not behind a plexiglass barrier separating them from customers.

Edmonton is also suggesting travellers consider using transit during off-peak hours to avoid close contact with others.
