Tickets for Oilers-Leafs nearly double the price than most games

If you want to see the Edmonton Oilers take on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Rogers Place tonight, you better be prepared to pay a hefty price.

The Leafs are in town for their once-a-season visit to Edmonton and both fan bases are eager to catch a glimpse of Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and William Nylander take on the Oilers.

Normal tickets have all been bought out and the only way to get into the building tonight will be through buying a resale ticket. As of this morning, the cheapest resale ticket on Ticketmaster’s website will cost you $163, and that is for seats in the upper bowl.

This is a bit more expensive than your usual Oilers game. As a comparison, next week’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets has tickets on the resale market as low as $69, which is nearly $100 less than the cheapest ticket available for tonight.

You might be surprised that this isn’t even the most expensive Oilers game left on Edmonton’s home schedule. The cheapest ticket for next month’s Battle of Alberta against the Calgary Flames is currently $254.

These high ticket prices represent how anticipated fans are for each game. Of course, a team as popular as the Leafs will have not only Oilers fans rushing to the arena but also Leafs fans who reside in the Alberta capital and don’t often get to see their team in person.

The in-game matchups are also unmatched across the league and only get to be seen about twice a year in any given season. Who wouldn’t want to shell out a few extra bucks to see Connor McDavid take on his hometown team?

Whether you decide to pay the extra bit of cash to see the game in person or opt to watch it on TV at home, tonight is looking to be an exciting one.

Puck drop is set for 7 pm MT on Sportsnet West.
