Police investigating "suspicious death" on Christmas Day

Edmonton Police Service homicide section is investigating a “suspicious death” that took place in the early hours of Christmas morning.

According to a release, police say it was reported around 7:20 am on December 25 shots were fired in the area of 117 Street and 107 Avenue.

Upon arrival, police say a 28 year-old male victim was found outside the apartment building.

According to police, EMS responded to the scene and the victim was treated by paramedics but passed away shortly after.

“Persons were observed leaving the scene in vehicles. Detectives want to speak with anyone who was present at the time of the incident,” said EPS in a release.

An autopsy revealed that the 28 year-old victim, Abdinasir Abdullahi Shire, died from gunshot wounds and his death has been deemed a homicide.

“Homicide Detectives continue to investigate and want to speak with anyone who was present at the time of the incident,” said EPS in a release Friday.

Anyone with any information about the shooting or what led up to the incident is asked to contact the EPS.
