The Edmonton Oilers have acquired a new player.

The team announced on Monday that it has signed 24-year-old free agent forward Aku Räty to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000 at the NHL level.

The 6-foot, 190-pound right winger is coming off a big year in Finland, where he scored 57 points (20-37-57) in 51 games with Karpat — tying him for seventh in league scoring.

The brother of Vancouver Canucks centre Aatu Räty, Aku was a fifth-round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2019. The Oulu, Finland, native posted 44 points in 55 AHL games with the Tucson Roadrunners in 2023-24, and earned a one-game call-up with the Coyotes that season. Ironically, his lone game came against the Oilers, where he registered one assist.

Räty will need to impress in training camp to earn a spot on the Oilers’ NHL roster, but if nothing else, he’ll provide added depth in the organization.
