Have you ever wondered how Edmonton Oilers players have fared when it comes to fitness testing over the years?
Every year, training camp allows players to show how much work they put in throughout the offseason, and for some, it gives them the opportunity to be recognized for quite some time.
As it turns out, the Oilers have a wall that shows some of the top all-time fitness testing results. While most would expect some of the team’s most dominant players, such as Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, to be at the top of several categories, there are instead quite a few names on said wall that many fans likely haven’t heard of in quite some time.

There is just one active Oiler who finds himself on the list: Darnell Nurse. The 30-year-old blueliner is actually on there twice. He sits second all time, behind only former prospect Joey LaLeggia, in vertical jump at 34.15 inches. His broad jump of 121 inches, meanwhile, is first in franchise history.
Other recognizable names from the not-so-distant past include Kailer Yamamoto and Oscar Klefbom. The former sits first all time in pro agility with a time of 8.37 seconds, while the latter has the second best shuttle run at 167 seconds. That time is second to another name Oilers fans will remember in Jujhar Khaira, who is now apart of the Vancouver Canucks organization.
Perhaps the most impressive thing on this entire list is former defenceman prospect Sebastien Bisaillion bench pressing 380 lbs. That’s quite something, given that the second-best bench press recorded at Oilers camp came in 34 lbs lighter at 346 lbs. The now 38-year-old suited up for two games with the Oilers during the 2006-07 season before enjoying a lengthy professional career overseas.
What’s also interesting about this is that even with players’ fitness continuing to improve each year, the majority of records on the list have been in place for roughly a decade, if not longer. It will be interesting to keep tabs on whose names will remain intact and whose will be replaced in the years to come.
