Edmonton Oilers forward Zach Hyman is set to become an owner of an OHL team.

There had been rumours floating around on social media as of late that Hyman’s father, Stuart, was in talks to purchase the Brantford Bulldogs. Based on a number of reports this morning, it appears he, his son, and the rest of the Hyman family have indeed purchased the team.

The Hymans are set to take over the team from Michael Andlauer, who has owned the organization for the past 10 years. Many hockey fans will recognize Andlauer’s name, as he has been a majority owner of the Ottawa Senators since September of 2023.

The Hyman family will take over a team that is having quite a bit of success this season, having amassed a 20-15-4 record through 39 games. That’s good enough for third in the Eastern Division and sixth in the Eastern Conference.

The Brantford Bulldogs, who previously played out of Belleville before being moved in 2023, have had plenty of success in recent years. They won the OHL championship in both 2018 and 2022.

Based on a report from CHCH News, this purchase from the Hymans puts a question mark on the future of the organization. As of now, there are plans to build a new sports and entertainment centre for the team, which is expected to cost roughly $140 million. That plan remains intact as of now but may change given the new ownership.

TSN’s Darren Dreger has since reported that the sale is pending OHL Board approval. An official announcement of the sale is expected to come on Monday night.

This is quite an exciting new venture for Hyman, although he’s got other focuses right now. He’s been able to pick things up after what was a slow start to the season and currently sits with 13 goals and 24 points through 36 games. The Oilers, meanwhile, sit second in the Pacific Division with a 25-13-3 record through 41 outings.
