Have you ever wanted to skate next to Edmonton Oilers players during an NHL game?

It’s very rare that a hockey player is good enough to make it all the way to the NHL, but that is not the only path for people wanting to rub shoulders with superstars during a game. Instead of being a player, there are plenty of on-ice jobs that teams offer to maintain the ice surface during commercial breaks.

The Oilers are one of those teams, and they just revealed a number of cool positions that could have you strapping on the skates and sharing the ice with the likes of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.

Auditions are now open for people looking to join Edmonton’s Orange and Blue Ice Crew for next season.

The Orange and Blue Ice Crew is described as being a co-ed group that helps contribute to the Oilers’ gameday experience. There are a number of on-and-off ice jobs that the organization is looking to fill next season.

On-ice positions will require applicants to lace up the skates and help clear snow and ice buildup during commercial breaks, as well as aid in promotions during intermissions. The off-ice jobs involve more fan interaction in the stands, including things like T-shirt tosses.

While the Orange and Blue Ice Crew will share the ice with NHL players, actual interactions with the team, players, and officials are strictly forbidden, with a zero-tolerance policy in place.

Those interested in auditioning for a spot on the team will need to fill out an online application on the Oilers’ website. The application will gauge your skating skill and will require potential members to record a video where they detail their background and motivation for auditioning.

The Oilers organization will then invite applicants that they deem worthy to an audition set for June 21 at Rogers Place. Those selected for the audition will need to pay $20 to confirm their spot.
