Edmonton Oilers fan visits the Vatican and we'll see if Stanley Cup prayers are answered

One Edmonton Oilers fan has turned to the divine for help during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

On the eve of Game 1 of the Oilers’ first-round matchup against the LA Kings, a fan was spotted in the Vatican while attending an Easter Sunday celebration, before the death of Pope Francis.

The fan was easy to spot as they were wearing a Connor McDavid Oilers home jersey, whose iconic blue and orange threads are not hard to pick out of a crowd.

It goes to show that Oilers fans will go to great lengths to see their team win in the playoffs.

This wasn’t some old jersey that the fan had lying around. In the photo, you can see the Fanatics logo just below the collar, indicating that this is one of the pricier jerseys that came out at the start of the 2024-25 NHL season. The league changed over jersey manufacturers from Adidas to Fanatics this season.

It was also fitting that the fan chose a McDavid jersey, as one of the popular nicknames for the Oilers captain among the Edmonton faithful is “McJesus,” due to how he changed the fortunes of the franchise since he arrived in 2015.

We do not know for sure whether this particular fan sent a prayer for the Oilers ahead of the playoffs, but if they did, we don’t have to wait long to see if it’ll be answered.
