Edmonton Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner moved a young fan to tears at the team’s annual autograph session in West Edmonton Mall.

The session took place on October 12 and allowed fans to meet with their favourite players for an autograph, a photo, and even a quick chat.

One of those fans was a kid named Kyson, who showed up to the event with a fake moustache and a mission: to meet Skinner, his idol.

Once it was his turn to meet the 24-year-old Oilers goalie, all the emotions came to a head and tears started streaming down Kyson’s face. As Skinner started to sign a card for him, an emotional Kyson let the Calder Trophy runner-up know that he loved him.

“Stuart Skinner is like my idol, he’s my favourite goalie ever,” said Kyson in an interview after meeting Skinner. “I love his moustache. He’s just been my favourite goalie ever since he had the number 50.”

It wasn’t just Kyson who cherished the interaction. Skinner himself was also emotional while meeting what might be his biggest fan.

“That was incredible,” said Skinner. “That got me a bit emotional. It’s pretty cool.”

“[Kyson] would look good in a moustache.”

Oilers fans were moved by the interaction as well with many commenting on how heartwarming it is to see a young kid meet somebody they look up to.

“Awww this is priceless. [Skinner] is an amazing person, always so humble. That young man will never ever forget that moment,” one commenter said on the Oilers’ Instagram post.

“I am so happy this young man got to meet a man who is an inspiration to him,” said another.

Skinner has a special connection to the City of Edmonton. He grew up in YEG and was an Oilers fan throughout his life. Now, the hometown kid gets the opportunity to help young fans realize their dreams.
