Edmonton Oilers defenceman Jake Walman is about to be a bit lighter in the wallet.
Game 3 between the Oilers and Florida Panthers was a very chippy affair, particularly late in the game once things had gotten out of hand with the Panthers leading 6-1. This saw several Oilers take liberties with Panthers players, including Walman.
This afternoon, the NHL’s Department of Player Safety announced two separate $5,000 fines heading Walman’s way, both of which are the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement.
Edmontonās Jake Walman has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for roughing Floridaās Matthew Tkachuk.
Walman has also been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct for an incident involving Floridaās bench.

The first fine came as a result of a sucker punch Walman threw at Matthew Tkachuk. The Panthers forward was involved in a scrum in front of the net late in the third period, and had his arms tied up by John Klingberg. While defenceless, Walman landed a hard punch on the 27-year-old.

The second fine came from an incident shortly thereafter. Although it was a lot less malicious, a frustrated Walman sprayed his water bottle at the Panthers’ bench, which was picked up by cameras.

The Oilers were a frustrated bunch last night, as they went down 1-0 less than a minute into the first period and were unable to claw their way back. After taking a 1-0 series lead in Edmonton last Wednesday, they now find themselves trailing 2-1 heading into Game 4 at the Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday.
