The film industry is thriving in Alberta, and another major project is on the way with a new Netflix series getting ready to film in the province.

According to the Director’s Guild of Canada Alberta production list, a show titled The Granville Girls is currently in pre-production and is set to start production on May 4, lasting until Sept. 20.

Netflix first announced the show back in October 2025, and while not much is known about the exact filming locations or cast yet, they did tease the Canadian Rockies as a key backdrop for the series.

The official synopsis reads: “As the great railway sweeps across the Canadian Rockies, Emma Daniels becomes a ‘Granville Girl,’ one of a select few women hired to work at the Granville Hotel. The job offers adventure, friendship, and a chance to support her family—if she can resist the hotel’s strictest rule: never fraternize with the men. But when Emma’s heart is captured by the hotel’s mysterious builder, she faces a choice that could cost her everything.”

The Granville Girls is based on Cat Cahill’s popular book series The Gilbert Girls, and adds to the growing list of Alberta-shot productions headed to global platforms.

Some other projects that have recently been filmed in Alberta include a new movie starring Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, who was spotted in downtown Calgary, and Die My Love, a movie starring Jennifer Lawrence, who admitted that Alberta’s weather made her cry
