Edmonton as a whole is an underrated Canadian city, but there are even more hidden gems across town that many people don’t know about.

These 10 neighbourhoods aren’t the well-known ones like Westmount or Strathcona and may not have the best (or any) reputation to outsiders, but they’re packed with great restaurants, local shops, and a strong community spirit you’ll only find in Edmonton.

North Glenora

All the name recognition of Glenora without the price tag of its southern counterpart. North Glenora is close to just about everything you could need, from downtown and the river valley to 124th Street, locally owned grocery stores like Freson Bros., and more.

Beaumaris

With one huge man-made feature, Beaumaris Lake, this north Edmonton neighbourhood also deserves some extra love. It offers easy access to great shops, restaurants, libraries, and recreation in nearby Castle Downs, and is definitely a spot worth adding to your list.

Alberta Avenue

Alberta Avenue has been steadily revitalizing, and its momentum is not slowing down. It is a tight-knit, multicultural community with a vibrant arts scene and is undoubtedly one of the best spots in the city for sampling authentic ethnic cuisine.

Located right next to Hermitage Park, this little-known neighbourhood is steps from the river valley, close to all major roads, and has quick and easy access to everything you could need in the Belmont Town Centre. It’s a little paradise that’s not too far away from it all!

Allendale

A charming and historic neighbourhood in south Edmonton, Allendale is one we think should be on everyone’s radar. Its location is hard to beat, with easy access to the U of A, Calgary Trail, Whyte Avenue, and more. It’s a place where you get inner-city convenience while enjoying a quieter, more suburban feel.

Beverly Heights

Despite being near the bustle of 118th Avenue, Beverly Heights feels quiet and tucked away, with mature tree-lined streets and plenty of historic homes. The best part is that homes here are still very affordable.

Capilano

From peaceful, wide streets lined with charming bungalows to the lush river valley parks along its northern edge, Capilano is a seriously underrated corner of southeast Edmonton. This neighbourhood feels secluded from the rest of the city, but a 10-minute drive to the west will put you in the centre of downtown.

Rundle Heights

Nestled beside Beverly Heights along the scenic North Saskatchewan River Valley, Rundle Heights is an often-overlooked Edmonton neighbourhood full of historic homes, tree-lined streets, and amazing views. It’s definitely one of the city’s hidden gems.

Millwoods

Millwoods is another community that doesn’t get the credit it deserves. It’s like a small city of its own, anchored by the Millwoods Town Centre, and it comes alive in the summer with a local carnival and Vaisakhi, the Sikh celebration that draws thousands for a vibrant parade through the neighbourhood.

Wellington

Named after Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington, this affordable slice of northwest Edmonton has it all. Its prime location gives you quick and easy access to every amenity along St. Albert Trail and 137th Avenue, and abundant park space makes getting outdoors just as breezy.
