Mike Babcock impersonator has resurfaced following Edmonton Oilers hiring

While many were frustrated by the Edmonton Oilers hiring of Mike Babcock, it has allowed for his impersonator to resurface.

Many fans will remember Babcock’s impersonator from his extremely short stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The impersonator quickly blew up, given just how accurate his impression of the 63-year-old is.

This skit, of course, was done shortly after it had been revealed that Babcock had been going through the phones of Blue Jackets players. It wound up resulting in him resigning from his head coaching position before the regular season had even gotten underway.

Given Babcock’s unceremonious departure in Columbus, seemingly everybody thought his time in the NHL had come to an end. That changed weeks ago, when it was reported that the Oilers had major interest in the 2008 Stanley Cup champion.

After getting the go-ahead from the NHL to hire Babcock, the Oilers officially named him their new head coach on Tuesday. Just days ahead of the hiring, the Live From Moose Jaw show put out an old skit poking fun at his stint with the Blue Jackets.

To no surprise, fans are loving seeing these old clips resurface.

“This guy getting back into the NHL is the best thing that happened to your Instagram,” one user commented.

What makes the Babcock situation all the more interesting is that he hasn’t seemed to change in any sense. During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, he completely downplayed the Blue Jackets incidentĀ and indicated that he re-signed due to his wife.

“I chose to walk away, really straightforward; it was very evident before the year started,” Babcock said. ā€œI hadn’t benched anybody, I hadn’t talked to anybody, I hadn’t sat anybody out, and it was evident that we weren’t together as a staff right from the get-go.

“My wife gave me a call, and she said it was time to get out of there. I had been retired, I was pretty good at it, I got back to being retired.”

While Babcock not appearing to have changed could be bad news for the Oilers, it will give his well-known impersonator plenty of content ideas throughout the course of the 2026-27 season.
