Connor McDavid is expected to be in the lineup for the Edmonton Oilers tonight, according to multiple reports.

Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston is reporting that McDavid will play against the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Place. It would be his first game since March 20, as the injury caused the Oilers captain to miss the last eight games.

Mark Spector adds that McDavid will take the pre-game skate, leaving room for the possibility that he could be a late scratch.

Getting the best player on the planet back in the lineup is always good news, but it feels especially important now for an Oilers team that’s already without Leon Draisaitl, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mattias Ekholm, and Stuart Skinner, among others.

The Oilers are 4-4-0 without McDavid in their last eight games but have lost their last two games after Draisaitl joined him on the injured list.

Edmonton could clinch a playoff spot as soon as tonight, provided they beat the Blues today and then the Calgary Flames lose in regulation to Anaheim.
