While it was Canada who came out on top, the 4 Nations Face-Off turned out to be a massive success that drew worldwide attention.
Fans from many countries around the world had their eye on this event, to the point that ESPN Deportes even had a Spanish broadcast in place. The Spanish-language commentators already gained plenty of attention for an electric call on a Connor McDavid goal versus the U.S. last Saturday, and they were right back at it when McDavid scored the overtime goal to secure the championship for Canada last night.

The ESPN Deportes broadcast was called by Kenneth Garay and Carlos Rossell, who are garnering plenty of attention on social media thanks to last night’s amazing call. The “GOOOOAL” call has somewhat of a soccer vibe to it, which helps add even more excitement to what was a huge goal that will forever be etched in Canadian history.
Their other historic call on McDavid’s goal versus the U.S. in their first outing last Saturday had a very similar and thrilling reaction.

Hearing the excitement from Garay and Rossell shows just how successful this tournament was. Despite Canada, USA, Sweden, and Finland being the only four countries represented, many more nations tuned in to this new best-on-best event, which will help grow not only the NHL, but also hockey as a whole.
Though this event is likely a one-and-done, hockey fans can get used to plenty of best-on-best events. Next up will be the 2026 Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. That will be followed by the World Cup of Hockey in 2028, which will continue to be a regular occurrence in part with the Olympics going forward.
Getting best-on-best events is something that hockey fans have been begging for over the last decade, and we’re finally back to getting it regularly moving forward. It will not only help continue to grow the game, but also allow for some more electric calls from different broadcasts like we heard from ESPN Deportes last night.
