Major disruptions to last for months on a busy street in downtown Edmonton

If your commute takes you through the west end of Jasper Avenue in downtown Edmonton, you can expect another season of major disruptions due to construction.
Starting the week of April 7, work will resume along Jasper Avenue between 117th Street and 121st Street as part of Stage 2 of the Imagine Jasper Project (Phase 2), which will reduce traffic to just one lane in each direction.
The multi-year project is aimed at revitalizing the avenue with wider sidewalks, enhanced street furniture, landscaping, improved lighting, and fresh new roadways.
Last summer also saw Jasper Avenue reduced to one lane in each direction between 114th Street and 117th Street for utility relocation and roadwork as part of the project.
This year’s work involves full reconstruction of the roadway and sidewalks between 117th Street and 121st Street. Crews will also install new storm sewers, traffic signals, and street lighting, while continuing to update landscaping and pedestrian infrastructure.
City of Edmonton
Construction will begin on the north side of Jasper Avenue, with work shifting to the south side later in the season. Work in this area is expected to be completed by late 2026, with Jasper Avenue reopening to full traffic capacity during the winter months.
Meanwhile, utility work will also take place between 121st Street and 124th Street throughout 2026, including water main upgrades and the relocation of underground power, gas and telecommunications infrastructure.

Expect delays in the area, as only one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction.
On-street parking will be unavailable between 117th Street and 121st Street, and while pedestrian access will remain in place, detours may be needed from time to time.
With warmer weather, expect even more roadwork during the latter of Edmonton’s true two seasons: winter and construction.
