Feb 19 2020, 9:48 pm

Inuk throat singer and composer Tanya Tagaq will be performing for two nights in Edmonton this weekend alongside the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra.

On Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22, Tagaq will present Qiksaaktuq (which translates to grief in Inuktitut), an orchestral work dedicated to the lives of missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Qiksaaktuq is written in five movements, based on the Kübler-Ross model of the five stages of grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.

The evening will also feature ESO Chief Conductor Alexander Prior conducting Prokofiev’s Third Symphony and Webern’s Passacaglia.

Tickets start at $25 plus fees and are available online.
