Ingram looked great in his first AHL game with Edmonton Oilers organization

Connor Ingram has officially made his AHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers organization, and he looked pretty good.

The 28-year-old got his first start with the Bakersfield Condors over the weekend, where he faced the San Jose Barracuda. Ingram turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced on the night, powering the Condors to a 2-1 victory.

A pair of Oilers prospects helped Ingram secure the win, with Roby Jarventie and Quinn Hutson notching the Bakersfield goals. The Saskatchewan native finished the night with an impressive .955 save percentage and did not look rusty despite not having played a professional hockey game since last February.

The only goal that beat him was a snipe from Cole Clayton on an extended 2-on-1 rush.

It’s a great start for Ingram, who is looking to steal an NHL job away from either Stuart Skinner or Calvin Pickard this season. So far, goaltending for the Oilers has not been the biggest story, with the lack of offence taking most of the attention away.

Still, it hasn’t been without it’s warts six games into the regular season. Skinner had a costly gaffe in the season opener against the Calgary Flames and, most recently, gave up a really weak goal to the Detroit Red Wings that wound up being the game-winner.

Pickard has had one good start and one bad start so far as well. The goalies have gotten away from the spotlight, but they haven’t been able to slam the door on the critics like they may have wanted.

Ingram will be waiting in the wings to pounce on any opportunity, but he needs to perform well in the AHL to get that chance. A win in his debut where he only gave up a single goal in a tight game is a great start.

The Condors play two games this week on Friday and Saturday. Ingram will likely get a start in at least one of those matches.
