If you live on the west end of Edmonton and beyond, you may want to add a little more time to your morning commute, as a busy highway into the city has been reduced to one lane for a while.

Eastbound Highway 16A/Stony Plain Road at Winterburn Road will be reduced to a single lane for six to eight weeks while repairs are completed on a bridge damaged by a vehicle strike.

During the repairs, speeds in this area will also be reduced to 50 kilometres per hour.

The City of Edmonton says that Winterburn Bridge was hit by a vehicle in December 2023, following a more extensive bridge repair in the summer of 2023.

According to the City of Edmonton’sĀ Traffic Disruptions Map, the lane reduction began on Monday, with a listed finish date of December 31, 2024.

Alternate routes are recommended for those travelling east into the city.
