Three more hand sanitizers recalled by Health Canada

Health Canada has announced the recall of some hand sanitizers that may pose a health risk to Canadians.

The three items are being recalled because they “either contain ingredients that are not permitted by Health Canada or are not properly labelled and are missing important information,” according to the recall.

Health Canada advises Canadians to immediately stop using the products listed in the recall and to consult a healthcare professional if they have used any of the sanitizers and have health concerns.

One of the items being recalled, “Birds & Bees Distillery 70% Ethyl Alcohol,” is not authorized to contain technical-grade ethanol, says Health Canada. The hand sanitizer is made by Birds & Bees Winery.

The other two items being recalled are both made by Pure Essentials Inc. and are not authorized for sale in Canada and, according to the release, “contain unacceptable ingredients,” including methanol and ethyl acetate.

The items being recalled are “Pure Essentials Lavender and Sage Hand Spray with Denatured Ethanol” and “Pure Essentials Orange and Niaouli Hand Spray with Denatured Ethanol.”

Recalled items can be disposed of in accordance with your municipal or regional guidelines for chemical disposal, or returned to your local pharmacy, says Health Canada.
