This popular Japanese BBQ restaurant quietly closed its doors in Edmonton

You won’t be having plans at this location anytime soon…

Gyu-Kaku, a popular Japanese BBQ franchise, closed its Edmonton doors this month. It’s notable for its popularity in North America, great quality meats and dishes, as well as all-you-can-eat options at its authentic yakiniku experience, not too different from a classic Korean BBQ experience.

Here, you would join your friends or family to share premium cooked meats over a flaming, smokeless grill, whilst sipping on Japanese sake, shochu, or frosty cold beers. It even had delicious mocktails for those staying sober.

Although its popularity was certainly there, that wasn’t enough for this Edmonton location.

It’s unclear when exactly the location closed this month, but it’s website now states, “This location is now closed. Visit us at any of our many U.S. and Canadian locations here.”

They are currently still taking reservations on Google despite the closure, but you can consider any future reservation of yours canceled, for obvious reasons. No other announcements have been made about the closure other than the official website stating it. It’s unclear whether the team will make a full announcement or not.

If you’re still craving the delicious meats of Gyu-Kaku, the next closest location to Edmonton would be it’s Calgary restaurant, the only other location in Alberta.

As of now, there are only five locations total in Canada, as opposed to the tens of locations in the United States. After Calgary, you can find the restaurants in Richmond, Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

So long, Gyu-Kaku, and a solemn farewell.
