If you love holiday movies, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a staple feature, and an Alberta home mirroring the brightly lit Griswold House is back soon for another season.

An iconic home in Stony Plain that pays homage to the holiday classic is returning this season, and you’ll be able to see it all lit up soon, too.

It’s become a must-see for those in the region, and decorations are already set up, with the owner telling Daily Hive that the Christmas lights on the home that pays homage to the Chevy Chase classic film are set to be flicked on come Friday, Nov 21.

The timers are on a photo cell, so they turn on as it gets dark, and the timers will be set for five to six hours, allowing for plenty of time to stop by and enjoy the lights.

This will be the sixth year Jon Harringa has decorated his home at 64 Briarwood Point in Stony Plain as the Griswold House. He grabbed international attention when he debuted the flashy scene back in 2020.

In previous years, Harringa has gone all out with string lights covering the entire home, and the lights have even been strung up above the driveway, too.

The RV was also decorated, and Santa and his reindeer were on top, with Cousin Eddie in a robe (and nothing more). We all know which scene from the movie that look is referencing.

He even got the Griswold family’s 1989 Ford Taurus Wagon parked in front of the home, too. The dedication is REAL!

There are a few new things in terms of design and layout for this year, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Many homes in the cul-de-sac where the Griswold House sits also decorate heavily for the holidays, so be sure to take your time and enjoy all the sights.

The house was lit up until the New Year last year, and here’s hoping that will be the case this year, too.

Stony Plain is just 40 minutes west of Edmonton’s downtown core, so head out and take a look at the Griswold House when it’s ready. We can guarantee you and your family will have the hap-hap-happiest Christmas.
