Gene Principe delivered yet another treat to Edmonton Oilers fans during Friday night’s tilt against the Utah Hockey Club.
Principe, who serves as the current host of the Oilers for Sportsnet, is absolutely beloved by the fan base for his light-hearted humour and, of course, his witty puns. Both were on display last night.
The 57-year-old was one of many who grew a moustache for the month of November to help raise awareness for men’s health issues. However, with the month coming to an end, it was time for his moustache to go, and Principe chose to remove it live for everyone to witness.

This entire sequence was quite hilarious, as Bob Stauffer, the host of Oilers Now on 880CHED, had the same bewildered reaction as many watching from home.
“You’re not actually doing this, are you?” Stauffer said.
Principe didn’t appear the slightest bit phased, however, and continued to shave away. In typical fashion, he threw out some great puns along the way.
“Can we briefly touch on the power play?” Principe asked. “They’re clipping along at a great rate tonight… This is a lot of fun, and we’ll see if Calvin Pickard’s shave percentage continues to climb here.”
Though Utah was able to get one past Pickard in the third period to tie things up at three, he was perfect the rest of the way, which allowed the Oilers to pick up a big overtime win thanks to a goal from Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.

With the win, the Oilers have improved to 12-9-2 on the season, and, at least for a brief period, have jumped ahead of the Colorado Avalanche to grab ahold of the final wild-card position in the Western Conference.
