Swanky downtown Edmonton hotel receives two major global honours
A swanky and historic downtown Edmonton hotel is racking up major travel awards this fall, earning recognition from two global authorities in the industry.
Fairmont Hotel Macdonald has been awarded one Michelin Key for 2025 and named among Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Award winners. The honours celebrate both the hotel’s long-standing reputation for hospitality and Edmonton’s growing profile as a travel destination.
“Since 1915, Fairmont Hotel Macdonald has effortlessly delivered timeless luxury in the heart of Edmonton. Nestled above the river valley, the hotel’s charm and elegance have earned it recognition as one of the city’s beloved landmarks,” the hotel said in a statement.
Michelin describes its one-key hotels as “a very special stay,” recognizing properties that stand out for their character, individuality, and exceptional service. Other Alberta properties to earn one key include Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, and The Dorian, Autograph Collection in Calgary.
The hotel said the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Award is “especially meaningful” because it’s based on guest votes.
“From engagements overlooking the North Saskatchewan River Valley to the business traveller who found comfort 2,000 miles away from home, these votes reflect the heartfelt connections guests have made at Edmonton’s landmark hotel.”
Other Canadian hotels to make that list included The Magnolia Hotel & Spa in Victoria, the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, and The Drake Hotel in Toronto.
