
An alleged explosion rocked the east side of Edmonton Friday morning, with residents in neighbourhoods including Ottewell and Capilano reporting that they heard the blast.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) told Daily Hive that it is aware of a potential explosion on the east side of Edmonton and that it is in the area, but has yet to identify the source.
Social media users began reporting the blast, which reportedly occurred in the areas of 100th Avenue and 34th Street NW, around 10:40 am.
EFRS also said that it’s in contact with Strathcona County Emergency Services and various industrial plant sites in the area.
Video from users on Reddit and TikTok shows a blast of fire shooting upwards into the sky, followed by a plume of smoke.

My house backs onto ravine and overlooks Imperial Oil Strathcona. 30 years in this neighbourhood and I have never heard an explosion so loud or powerful. My house shook for several seconds and it was so powerful I ended up ducking down because it sounded so close.
