Snow won't stand a chance in Edmonton with a 39-degree temperature change

Feb 18 2025, 4:12 pm

Edmonton has been hugged by frigid temperatures for the past couple of weeks, but we are nearing the end of this cold snap with a huge temperature change on the way.

Our daytime highs and overnight lows may have been well below normal over the past while, but looking at the Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecast, it seems like we are on the cusp of a big weather shake-up.

Before we dive into what balmy temperatures are coming our way, we just have to make it through today and tomorrow.

As of 8 am, Edmonton is sitting at -30°C and is set to rise to just -20°C today, while the daytime high for tomorrow is currently forecast to peak at -13°C.

Once we arrive at Thursday, the warmth set to invade our city starts to make its presence known with a daytime high of 3°C, and the weekend looks even better. Saturday holds a daytime high of 5°C and Sunday a stunning 9°C.

When you do the math between the current temperature this morning of -30°C and Sunday’s daytime high, it’s a roller coaster with a temperature change of 39 degrees. Fingers crossed that the warmer temperatures stick around and we are done with brisk cold snaps for the rest of winter!

According to ECCC, the average high for Edmonton around this time of year is -3°C, while the average low is -12°C.
