Nearly three-quarters of Edmonton families chose to send their children back to the city’s public schools this fall during the continuing pandemic.

Edmonton Public Schools says that as of September 10, 72% of its students were registered for in-person instruction.

The remaining 28% of students enrolled in online learning.

That translates to 74,938 public school students in class and 29,163 of them at home.

Families whose children attend Edmonton’s public or Catholic schools had to choose back in August whether to return to the classroom.

“Edmonton Public Schools recognizes that returning to classes in person may not be the best fit for all students, which is why we’re offering choices for families,” the board said at the time.
